Happy Reformation Day!

Posted on Posted in Holidays

Did you know that a very special holiday is coming up on October 31st of this year? No, I’m not talking about Halloween. On October 31, 1517, a courageous man named Martin Luther made history when he nailed his 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg, Germany, proposing that salvation is by grace alone through faith in Christ, and our final authority for theology is the Bible, not the church.

Although Luther intended only to start a theological discussion, his 95 Theses sparked the Protestant Reformation. When asked to recant at the Diet of Worms, Luther spoke the famous words, “Here I stand, I can do no other, God help me! Amen.”

This year Protestant churches around the world are celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. If you are looking for something unique to wear on October 31st this year, we’ve got you covered! Early Star has produced four new t-shirts, available in 5 colors and men’s, women’s, and youth sizes.

Here We Stand shirt

The Wittenberg Door shirt features an original line drawing of the door in Wittenberg where Luther nailed the 95 Theses, and the Here We Stand shirt bears the title “Here We Stand,” surrounded by the 5 Solas of the Reformation in both Latin and English proclaiming the Protestant distinctives: “Scripture Alone, Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Christ Alone, To the Glory of God Alone.” The Luther Quote German/English shirt¬†displays Luther’s famous quote from the Diet of Worms in German and English, and the Martin Luther Quote shirt¬†features a shortened version of the same quote. (Great conversation starter when people ask, “What language is that on your shirt?”)

All four shirts are available in the Early Star Gift Shop, a brand-new resource where you can find our short list of carefully selected gift ideas for the entire family.
